The works are delivered in two stages. The first stage, currently ongoing, started last August and will keep going until January 2024. It consists in strengthening both banks of the Rímac river by installing ground anchors six to eight meters deep and lining of the embankment with shotcrete for its stabilization. In all, 100m of bank on both sides of the river will benefit from this reinforcement work. In all, 100m of embankment on both sides of the river will benefit from this reinforcement work.
The second phase of the project will begin in the summer of 2024, after the rainy season. It will continue to reinforce the embankments by injecting concrete into piles located 2 meters below the riverbed, and will protect the foot of the embankments by installing anti-wear metal plates.
In anticipation of the arrival of El Niño, Lima Expresa teams have been cleaning the riverbed over an area of around 1.6 km since the summer, and raising the protective walls.
