VINCI Highways, through LIMA EXPRESA, inaugurate photovoltaic plant to generate energy autosufficient pay plazas
Continuing with its strategy of energy efficiency and care for the environment, LIMA EXPRESA, a VINCI Highways company and concessionaire of the Vía de Evitamiento and the Línea Amarilla express road, implement for the first time a photovoltaic solar system (SVF) in the Monterrico toll plaza. This initiative will allow the generation of electricity through solar panels, reducing energy consumption from polluting sources.
LIMA EXPRESA will reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030, compared to 2018. The implementation of solar panels will cover about 26% of the energy demand that the Monterrico toll plaza needs, reducing 15 tons of Co2 per year of the emissions it generates, and consists of an investment of more than US $ 50,000.
The system was built in collaboration with EQUANS, an ENGIE company. The SVF will be composed of 84 solar panels. It will have 37.8 kWp of power, generating 45,960 kWh/year. This figure represents the energy used by 20 homes for a year. It will have a meter to record real-time information on the energy consumption of the toll plaza and the energy production that will be generated with this equipment.
This is the first time that LIMA EXPRESA implements a project that self-generates clean energy in order to continue reducing its carbon footprint. The installation of solar panels contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically to the SDG 13: Climate Action plan.
"This project is another milestone in our environmental commitment, after the purchase of our fleet of electric vehicles, the signing of the first Clean Production Agreement of a road concessionaire with the Ministry of Environment, the use of clean energy since 2020 to operate the Great Tunnel located on the Yellow Line express road and the neutralization of 700 tons of carbon through the conservation of the Cordillera Azul National Park".
