As part of its commitment to maintaining infrastructure safety, as well as ensuring the safety of its users and local residents, Lima Expresa, member of the VINCI Highways network and concession holder for the Via de Evitamiento and the Linea Amarilla expressway, launched in August maintenance work on the Rímac riverbed, which will be completed in 90 days.

The works will be carried out mainly along the Rímac River. This area extends from the height of the Huánuco bridge to the Santa Rosa bridge, over a length of 1.6 km. 12,000 tonnes of riverbed material will be unblocked and rearranged, 6,000 tonnes of material will be removed, 500 m2 of riverbed protection rock will be repaired and 5,000 m2 of existing vegetation will be cleared and removed. The walls along the Via de Evitamiento will also be extended and raised to protect users and residents against possible future flooding of the Rimac River due to meteorological phenomena.

Approved by the National Water Authority and the Disaster Risk Management Department of the Municipality of Lima, this maintenance work on the bed of the Rímac is carried out by VINCI Highways every year, before the start of the rainy season, to ensure the safety of users and neighbors in the surrounding areas.

"Today, in collaboration with Lima Expresa, we are overseeing the work on 1.6 kilometers to preventively clean the riverbed so that the water can flow safely, both on the Via de Evitamiento and on the Lima downtown side," said Mario Casaretto, Head of Disaster Risk Management for the Lima Metropolitan Municipality.

"As every year, Lima Expresa carries out maintenance works on the riverbed of the Rímac to prevent possible risk situations to prevent an increase flow due to climatic phenomena. It's important to anticipate its impact and act to preserve our heritage and guarantee the safety of local residents. Prevention helps to reduce risks and avoid disasters", said Janis Rey, CEO of VINCI Highways Peru and Director of Lima Expressa.
