VINCI Highways launches automated toll service to improve driver experience and traffic flow in Peru
VINCI Highways, through its subsidiary Lima Expresa, in charge of operating the Vía de Evitamiento and Vía Expresa Línea Amarilla, is launching the first self-service automated toll booth system in Peru. These new toll booths, exclusively dedicated to digital payments, allow drivers to pay tolls using contactless digital devices, including bank debit and credit cards.
This initiative is the result of a successful one-year pilot program led by Lima Expresa to evaluate the effectiveness of this technology on two digital toll booths at the Estadio toll plaza on the Vía Expresa Línea Amarilla. The results confirmed a significant reduction in payment processing time, from 15 to 5 seconds, and a high level of satisfaction among drivers. In addition, throughout the one-year pilot project, the number of drivers using the pilot lanes increased steadily, indicating a positive receptiveness and a growing trend towards the use of digital payment methods.
Based on the success of the pilot project, VINCI Highways will extend the service until the end of the year by deploying 14 additional digital toll booths. Thanks to this extension, almost all Lima Expresa toll plazas will have at least one automated toll lane, significantly improving the overall toll payment experience.
By ensuring quicker transaction times, this initiative helps to reduce congestion in toll plazas, improve traffic flow and avoid slowdowns in the city of Lima. This is another step in Lima Expresa's commitment to improving mobility in Lima, building on the expertise of VINCI Highways and as VINCI Concessions Innovation Centre of Excellence for road operations.
