Committed to meet VINCI Concessions’ objective to reach zero direct emissions by 2050, VINCI Highways is deploying its environmental agenda across the 14 countries of its network, adapting its actions to diverse local contexts. In Latin America, a region central to VINCI Highways’ operations, this ambition translates into a pragmatic approach to environmental leadership: acting early when possible, and preparing the ground for long-term transition. After pioneering several “firsts” in Peru, where its subsidiary Lima Expresa was the first concessionaire to deploy electric vehicles and has developed on-site photovoltaic energy, VINCI Highways is now achieving new milestones in Brazil and Colombia.

In Brazil, VINCI Highways powers its first 100% renewable highway in Latin America

In early 2025, VINCI Highways reached a significant milestone in Brazil: the 570-kilometre Entrevias concession in São Paulo State is now fully powered by renewable electricity. This is a first within VINCI Highways’ network in Latin Amercia and marks a step change in its decarbonization roadmap. The result was made possible through a combination of renewable energy purchase agreements and on-site solar generation. Twelve photovoltaic plants, installed across toll plazas and inspection posts, now produce 2.2 megawatts annually—enough to power over the highway’s 1,400 systems, from lighting and surveillance cameras to variable message signs and emergency Wi-Fi. This new energy mix will help avoid 166 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.

The initiative also signals a long-term ambition: Entrevias is now targeting full energy self-sufficiency by 2030. This ambition sets a reference point for highway operations in Brazil, at a time when VINCI Highways is expanding its footprint in the country, following the acquisition of Entrevias in 2023 and the integration of Via Cristais in 2025.

In Colombia, first EVs deployed as Via Sumapaz enters a new operational phase

In Colombia, VINCI Highways has just launched its first electric vehicles on the Bogotá–Girardot highway, operated under the Via Sumapaz concession. April 2025 marks a new step: with the final construction works approaching completion, the highway is entering a fully operational phase after several years of simultaneously running works and traffic operations. To support this transition, environmental initiatives are gaining momentum. The first electric vehicles - used for maintenance, patrol, and emergency response - are now in service. The fleet will progressively expand from 18 vehicles in 2025 to 31 by 2028. This shift is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 90 tons per year.

These actions in Brazil and Colombia reflect VINCI Highways’ broader environmental commitment. Since 2018, the company has reduced its direct emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 40%. Across its global network, 78% of lighting has been converted to LED, 8.7 MWp of solar capacity has been installed, and more than 400 EV charging stations have been deployed or are in development.
