In Brazil, Entrevias launches the duplication of the Tiete River bridge, marking major phase in SP-333 expansion
Entrevias Concessionária de Rodovias, of which VINCI Highways is the majority shareholder since 2023, has launched the construction of a new bridge over the Tiete River, representing a significant milestone in the SP-333 expansion program. Located between the municipalities of Novo Horizonte and Pongai, in central São Paulo state, the new Tiete River bridge will be 2.4 kilometers long, making it the state’s second-longest bridge.
Built along the existing Borborema bridge, the new structure will allow to double the capacity for vehicles crossing the Tiete River. It will stimulate economic activity by facilitating the transport of agricultural production. It will also enhance the region's touristic appeal by improving visitors’ access to the natural beauty and water sports activities of the Tieter River area.
In cooperation with the Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo, Entrevias will implement an ambitious environmental plan. This includes the temporary housing and safe relocation of local wildlife impacted by the construction in a temporary wildlife base, before releasing back the animals into their natural habitats. The plan also involves continuous monitoring of the Tiete River's water quality and the health of its aquatic fauna. Entrevias will organize regular environmental education workshops for nearby communities to raise awareness about environmental protection.
The new bridge is designed with wildlife crossings to mitigate its impact on natural habitats. These crossings will be monitored 24/7 by Entrevias using CCTV, providing valuable data on wildlife movement and adaptation in the area.
The construction of the new Tiete River bridge marks the beginning of a new phase in the SP-333 highway expansion, including the duplication of the 52 km section between Borborema and Guarantã. This new phase of works is expected to generate more than 500 direct and indirect jobs, particularly benefiting the municipalities Pongaí, Borborema, Uru, Novo Horizonte, Itápolis and Ibitinga. during the two-year construction phase.
This project is part of the SP-333 highway expansion program and marks a crucial step to accommodate traffic growth (+5% growth in the number of transactions in the first half of 2023 versus 2022
VINCI Highways finalised in May 2023 the acquisition of a 55% stake in Entrevias from Patria, a Brazilian fund, and will hold the concession for two toll highway sections in Brazil until 2047.
