VINCI Concessions, Épopée Gestion, and ADEME Investissement co-invest €90m to accelerate heavy-duty road transport decarbonization across France and Europe
VINCI Concessions, Épopée Gestion, and ADEME Investissement today announced a partnership to deploy a high-power charging network for electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) along major French and European transport corridors. The three partners are committing nearly €90m to fund an initial wave of 20 stations, aiming to drive the decarbonization of freight transport. The network will be developed and operated by Voltix, a VINCI Concessions subsidiary dedicated to building a European public charging infrastructure network for electric HGVs. The first station is scheduled to open in Vierzon (Cher) in autumn 2026.
A key step toward decarbonizing road freight and strengthening France’s energy independence
Road transport accounts for around 90% of freight traffic in France and represents a significant share of transport sector emissions (22%). Electrifying the sector stands as one of the major industrial challenges of the coming decade. This shift is driven by stringent European regulations—requiring truck manufacturers to cut CO2 emissions from new fleets by 90% by 2040—and by France’s national road electrification strategy, which targets the deployment of several thousand dedicated heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) charging points by 2035.
This partnership directly addresses that challenge by providing carriers and shippers with a reliable, high-power infrastructure tailored to long-haul transport.
Operating under the Voltix brand, these stations will feature Megawatt Charging System (MCS) ultra-fast chargers. This pioneering technology enables an electric HGV to recover 4.5 hours of driving range in under 45 minutes—matching a driver’s mandatory rest period and enabling long-distance electric freight travel.
A consortium bringing together industry, regional investment, and public sector expertise
The transaction brings together three major players with complementary expertise:
VINCI Concessions, a global leader in mobility infrastructure. As a long-term infrastructure investor in France and internationally, VINCI Concessions supports the decarbonization of mobility across regions. This effort is driven by investments in EV charging networks and through Voltix, its brand dedicated to electric heavy goods vehicles. Voltix brings industrial and operational expertise spanning site development, engineering, charging technology, as well as station operation and maintenance across France and Germany.
Épopée Gestion, a regional investment firm, participating through its Infrastructure & Climate funds. True to its core strategy, this transaction combines local impact across key logistical hubs with support for innovative projects that accelerate road freight decarbonization.
ADEME Investissement, a 100% state-owned public investment firm, whose involvement aligns directly with government policy to advance decarbonization, energy independence, and electrification.
A European rollout starting in France
The €90 million partnership, supplemented by European Union CEF-AFIF grant funding, will finance the deployment of around 20 stations. The vast majority will be located in France at key road junctions, with planned expansion into Spain and Germany to initiate a continental charging corridor. The first station will be inaugurated in Vierzon in autumn 2026, at the intersection of several major highways in central France.
Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions, stated: "With this milestone for Voltix, we are thrilled to contribute to the decarbonization of road transport. This joint investment builds on VINCI Concessions' core strength, having recently won a major contract to deploy 25 heavy-duty EV charging stations along German motorways. We continue to develop solutions alongside regional authorities to provide freight transport with the concrete tools for its decarbonization, mirroring our deployment of charging stations across the VINCI Autoroutes network."
Ronan Le Moal, Co-founder and Managing Director at Épopée Gestion, stated: "Decarbonizing the economy and reinvesting in local regions stem from the same ambition. By financing this electric charging network for heavy goods vehicles alongside top-tier partners, we reaffirm our commitment to local regions and take concrete action to strengthen their economy by supporting the decarbonization of an essential sector. This commitment is all the more critical at a time when the green transition and regional competitiveness have become inseparable."
Karine Mérère, CEO of ADEME Investissement, stated: “Decarbonizing heavy goods vehicles is imperative to meeting our climate targets. ADEME Investissement's involvement directly supports the objectives of France's National Low-Carbon Strategy (SNBC) and national electrification plan, helping accelerate the rollout of electric trucks. It also addresses energy sovereignty: with tailored charging infrastructure, road transport reduces its reliance on imported fossil fuels and exposure to price volatility. By building out this regional network, we secure our energy autonomy while laying the groundwork for resilient, decarbonized logistics.”
