VINCI Concessions and its subsidiaries committed to water

As part of its environmental commitments to water and its natural environment, VINCI Concessions has set itself the goal of halving its water consumption by 2030, while protecting this resource.

In the field, this commitment is reflected in the deployment of systems for optimising and monitoring water resources. For example, Lima Expresa, VINCI Highways’ Peruvian subsidiary, has changed the vegetation around its roads so that it consumes 40% less water. Lisbon airport uses artificial intelligence to optimise its watering.

In addition, VINCI Concessions has installed water recovery and reuse systems in its infrastructure. In Brazil, for example, Salvador Bahia airport has completely renovated its air-conditioning system to make it more sustainable: in addition to being more energy efficient, the system is equipped with tanks that allow it to reuse water from the circuit. Each year, almost 16,000 m3 of water will be reused. The same approach is being used in Greece, where Olympia Odos is producing drinking water from the water vapour in the air as part of its “Water from the Air” pilot project.

Finally, VINCI Concessions is also banking on the treatment of wastewater or polluted water to meet its 2030 target. This is why wastewater treatment centres are being set up directly at its airports, notably in Serbia, Cambodia and Chile. VINCI Highways has installed hydrocarbon separators on its motorways to treat potentially polluted rainwater before it is discharged into the natural environment.
