United Kingdom: VINCI Highways continues to support vulnerable communities amidst COVID-19 pandemic
Island Roads, a road network managed by VINCI Highways (VINCI Concessions) until 2038, is on the front line on the Isle of Wight, to help communities cope with the socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through its Isle of Wight – Island Roads foundation, VINCI Concessions has already donated £ 10,000 to support initiatives aimed to help the communities most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The call for donations was launched following a crisis committee convened by Geoff Underwood, founder of WightAid – one of the island’s largest associations – and brings together a consortium of six island-based associations and charities. He commented; “Our main objective was to ensure that no family was left without food during these three months. We wanted to support charities that also deal with domestic violence and social isolation, and we made sure that the majority of our mutual funds went to charities supporting these good causes. ”
The donations were allocated to associations helping the elderly and vulnerable, by distributing food parcels to them and providing them with videocall devices to keep in touch with their loved ones. VINCI Concessions – through its Island Roads Foundation – in collaboration with the VINCI UK Foundation, has also been at the heart of the British government’s efforts to deploy a monitoring and testing application on mobile phone.
Following VINCI Concessions’ ambition to improve the connectivity of territories and the inclusion of communities, the Isle of Wight – Island Roads Foundation aims to fight against social exclusion on the island, and allocates funds each year between £ 3,000 and £ 16,000 to initiatives holding the same goal.
