The Czech D4 motorway project, awarded best European PPP
The first PPP Czech project for the completion of the D4 motorway, managed by Via Salis, has won the prestigious international PFI (Project Finance International) Awards 2021 for the best European PPP (Public Private Partnership) project. The PFI Awards annually recognize the world’s most outstanding achievements in project finance.
“This global award confirms the fact that the project was well prepared, tendered, structured and secured from our side and the Czech Ministry of Transport” said Christian Biegert, CEO of the Via Salis consortium and Managing Director of VINCI Highways in the country. “A key success factor is the extensive experience of VINCI Concessions, VINCI Highways and Meridiam in developing highway PPP projects in Europe.”
The D4 PPP project was awarded in a public tender to the Via Salis consortium of French companies VINCI Concessions, VINCI Highways and Meridiam. The investment includes the completion of 32 km of the D4 motorway from Příbram to Písek and the modernization of a further 16 km of already operational connecting sections. According to the contract, construction will be completed in December 2024 and the consortium will operate the motorway for the next 25 years.
The VINCI Group is contributing significantly to the construction and operation. The contractor for the construction work is DIVia stavební, a company of the EUROVIA Group, which is part of the VINCI group. The management and operation of the D4 motorway will be handled by VINCI Highways, which has experience in managing a network of 4,000 km of roads worldwide.
From 1 July 2021, operations and maintenance on the existing sections have started, managed by Via Salis Operation, the subsidiary of VINCI Highways. It includes today dozens of activities such as snow and ice removal, asphalt repairs and maintenance of traffic signs and greenery.
“High quality of the construction, modern equipment and experienced management will bring to the Czech Republic a safe and efficiently managed section of motorway” added Christian Biegert.
