New record for cargo activity in the Dominican Republic
The six airports operated by VINCI Airports and AERODOM in Dominican Republic have registered more than 80,000 tons of air freight in 2021, a new record that exceeds the previous year by 15%. This momentum is supported in particular by the new cargo terminal to be delivered in 2020 by VINCI Airports at Santo Domingo international airport, the main hub for cargo activity in the country.
An essential lever for the economic development of the country, which benefits from a strategic geographical position in the Caribbean, air freight has experienced sustained growth since last years in Dominican Republic.
This significant growth in cargo activities has notably been supported by the new cargo terminal delivered by VINCI Airports in end 2020 as part of the modernisation and optimisation plan for Las Americas International Airport aimed at improving the passenger experience, facilitating exports and offering the best gateways to the Dominican Republic.
Santo Domingo Airport is the main airport for cargo activities in the Dominican Republic. Its location, close to major logistics hubs, 24 free zone parks and more than 160 exporting companies, allows it to quickly and safely connect local producers to global supply chains through eight dedicated air cargo carriers, including three of the world’s leading companies such as UPS, FedEx and DHL.
By 2021 and despite the challenging times, Dominican Republic has welcomed nearly 5 million visitors, far surpassing most other Caribbean destinations.
