In Colombia, works continue on the Bogotá-Girardot motorway
The President of the Republic of Colombia, accompanied by the Vice President in charge of Infrastructure, the Minister of Transport and the President of the National Infrastructure Agency, visited Melgar, a town near Girardot, on Friday, February 12, to show their support for the project to modernize and widen the Bogotá-Girardot highway led by Via 40 Express, a subsidiary of VINCI Highways (VINCI Concessions), and whose work is being carried out in synergy by Conconcreto, VINCI Construction Grands Projets and VINCI Construction Terrassement.
After the commissioning of a first section, which was renovated and widened in 2019, the project continues with two priorities: improving road safety and enhancing the customer experience.
The concession company recently introduced a chatbot that informs motorists about traffic conditions, upcoming works and available services.
Seven sections of a total of 126 km will be rehabilitated. The second will be widened by a third lane for 2.8 km, between its three new tunnels with a total length of 2.2 km, and the last five by building a third lane for 69.0 km on the right carriageway and 59.5 km on the left carriageway. The start of the works took place at the beginning of 2021. The delivery of this construction site is scheduled for the beginning of 2025. This major highway project is one of the largest in Colombia and will create 14,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.
The President of the Republic of Colombia, Iván Duque, congratulated VÍA 40 EXPRESS on the plan to support the migrant population in transit through the road network. “This concession anticipates the process of attention to migrants that we have launched with the temporary protection status for the Venezuelan population. It is proof that a good concessionaire makes a difference and that fraternity in infrastructure works plays a decisive role”.
Since 2016, VINCI Highways is committed to improve mobility, safety and user experience. These are all essential objectives that will benefit local populations, the economy and employment in the country. Not forgetting VINCI Highways’ many social and sustainable initiatives in the region.
