In Colombia, VINCI Highways raises awareness about environmental issues among young people
In the context of the health emergency caused by the covid-19 epidemic, VINCI Concessions’ teams remain fully mobilized to support the populations of local territories. In Latin America, Via 40 Express, a subsidiary of VINCI Highways (VINCI Concessions), the concession holder for the Bogotá-Girardot freeway in Colombia, is introducing the use of digital tools to continue its training, education and environmental awareness activities among the youngest members of the population.
To deal with the risk of the Covid-19 virus spreading and encourage young people to take actions in favor of the environment in a responsible and supportive manner, VÍA 40 EXPRESS recently set up virtual learning sessions for students attending schools in the neighborhoods of Girardot, Nilo, Ricaurte, Icononzo and Melgar. These municipalities are located in areas where VINCI Highways operates and for which many other sociable and sustainable initiatives are regularly set up as close as possible to the inhabitants.
Developed with 5 schools located in the territory where the concession operates, these sessions, which began in June 2020, have enabled more than 550 students to benefit from theoretical and practical courses with environment as the main theme. These training sessions were carried out through videos prepared by the concessionaire and with the support of local partners.
The students actively took part in this process ; accompanied by their parents, they also recorded their own videos from home and developed their recommendations for action in favor of the environment, addressing topics related to water maintenance and recycling. Nearly 60 videos have already been produced.
“These actions are part of the training, education and community awareness program surrounding the project, and our commitment to environmental care and conservation. At VÍA 40 EXPRESS, we are convinced that children are the driving force behind environmental awareness in their families."
