Voltix inaugurates in Vierzon the most powerful charging station in France dedicated to electric heavy-duty vehicles.
- 1.5 megawatts per charging point; 4 charging points currently available and 8 planned long-term
- Located at the intersection of the A20, A71, and A85 motorways, a major hub for French logistics flows
- Voltix's first charging station; targeting a network of 50 planned stations across France and Germany by 2028
Voltix, a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, is inaugurating this October 2, 2026, in Vierzon (Cher department), the first station of its French public charging network dedicated to electric heavy-duty vehicles. Delivering 1.5 megawatts per charging point, it is currently the most powerful station in France, designed for road freight transport.
The station features four charging points, which will eventually be expanded to eight. Each point is equipped with a dual CCS and MCS connector (Megawatt Charging System, the charging technology for the newest generation of trucks). A truck can thus recover its driving range in just 30 to 45 minutes—matching the mandatory driver break required every 4.5 hours—thereby paving the way for long-distance electric mobility for heavy-duty vehicles.
The choice of Vierzon aligns with a logistics flow strategy: the city sits at the intersection of the A20 (Paris–Toulouse) and the A71 toward Clermont-Ferrand, with the nearby A85 opening up the corridor to Tours and the Atlantic coast.
The stakes are high: road transport accounts for 89% of domestic land freight transport in France and 7.4% of national greenhouse gas emissions. Electrifying heavy-duty vehicles is identified as the primary lever to decarbonize the sector by 2050. The Vierzon station thus serves as a foundational step to support a pronounced trend: registrations of electric heavy-duty vehicles have multiplied by thirty since 2021.
Present at the inauguration, five manufacturers—Renault Trucks, Volvo Trucks, Daimler Truck, Scania, and MAN—showcased their latest models supporting MCS charging.
The Vierzon station is the first of a series of charging stations co-financed by VINCI Concessions, Épopée Gestion, and ADEME Investissement, which announced a 90-million-euro co-investment last September to accelerate the decarbonization of road transport in France and Europe. The station is part of the DRIVE-FR project and is co-financed by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-AFIF), which supports the deployment of heavy-duty charging infrastructure across the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)
Nicolas Notebaert, President of VINCI Concessions, declared : “An electric truck without charging infrastructure is nothing more than a promise. In Vierzon, we want to demonstrate a simple fact: the infrastructure is no longer waiting; it is being built right here, right now, at the crossroads of France's major logistics corridors. Thanks to Voltix, we are making long-distance electric mobility a reality for heavy-duty vehicles as well."
