VINCI Highways celebrates the first year of PPP Via Salis in the Czech Republic

Martin Kupka, Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic, Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions, and Belen Marcos, President of VINCI Highways, today visited the works of the D4 Via Salis PPP, one year after the laying of the foundation stone for this major infrastructure project, which is the country’s first road PPP.

The works phase includes building a new road section (32 km between Příbram and Písek) and upgrading the existing road (16 km). In recent months, VINCI Highways, subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, and its partners, including Eurovia CS, a VINCI subsidiary, have finalised the marking out of the route, carried out the preparatory studies and begun the foundation works, prior to laying the structural layers of the highway.  The D4 is the first project in the Czech Republic to be carried out in full BIM.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2024.

VINCI Highways will operate the motorway for the next 24 years.

Martin Kupka and Nicolas Notebaert discussed about the ambitious environmental action plan implemented by VINCI Highways:

  • Construction of 20 wildlife crossings and installation of 16 km of amphibian protection barriers
  • Installation of 8 ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles
  • Construction of a photovoltaic farm for the needs of the operations centre
  • Maintenance of green spaces without pesticides
  • Recycling of materials and reuse of asphalt

Martin Kupka and Nicolas Notebaert also discussed the innovative aspects of the project. VINCI Highways plans to equip the D4 with a video surveillance system along the entire route and install variable traffic signs to ensure the safety of travellers on this future heavily frequented route.

Transport Minister Martin Kupka said: “The D4 motorway will be a reference project for the state when deciding whether to use PPP for other infrastructure investments. PPP could be considered, for example, for the D35 or the rail corridors.”

"VINCI Highways successfully builds and operates more than 4,000 km of highways, notably in Slovakia and Germany. We are bringing all this experience to the D4 project with the conviction that it will become a reference project in the Czech Republic.”
