At the Aviation Summit organised in Toulouse by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, VINCI Airports signed the “Toulouse Declaration“, by which European governments, the European Commission and the aviation industry commit themselves for the first time to a joint effort to decabonise aviation.

On this occasion, VINCI Airports is unveiling its new ambition: to achieve “Zero net carbon emissions” (scope 1 and 2) for its airports in the European Union by 2030 – i.e. 20 years ahead of the Paris Agreement trajectory. To achieve this, VINCI Airports will continue to massively reduce its emissions through energy efficiency, photovoltaics and forest carbon sinks. This action plan has already enabled VINCI Airports to reduce its direct emissions by 28% since 2018.

VINCI Airports also confirms its commitment to contribute to the decarbonisation of the entire air mobility chain (scope 3), through :

– Incentive measures such as the carbon modulation of airport charges, already deployed at its French airports;

– The development of sustainable aviation biofuels, already available at Clermont-Ferrand and London Gatwick airports;

– Industrial partnerships for the development of green hydrogen, with a first project being deployed with Airbus and Air Liquide at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Aviation Summit, Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions and President of VINCI Airports, said:

“French and European authorities can count on VINCI Airports to advance the environmental agenda, as part of the VINCI Group’s environmental ambition. Around the world, we are making progress on our plan to reduce our direct carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. And we will do even better here in the European Union. We are committed to achieving “zero net carbon emissions” by 2030 in Portugal, France and Sweden, and even by 2026 at Lyon-Saint Exupéry. This is a collective ambition, and we are working in partnership. Together with Airbus and Air Liquide, we are already developing green hydrogen aviation in Lyon.

With its 26 European airports, VINCI Airports is proud to sign the Toulouse declaration, with the ambition of having a positive impact for airports, for aviation as a whole and for the territories we serve.”
